Wormwood is used to treat many different things such as digestive problems, parasitic infections of the digestive tract, and loss of appetite. There may be some side effects of wormwood that you should take into account.

Always read the label of your supplement carefully and make sure you keep up with how much wormwood you take. If you overdose on wormwood, there are some serious side effects that are possible such as:
  • Changes in mood
  • Shaking/tremors
  • Seizures
  • Stomach pains
  • Sleeplessness
  • Feeling thirsty
  • Numbness
If you believe you have taken too much wormwood and you feel any of these side effects, you need to get medical help. Call poison control or you can go to the emergency room if you think it's serious.

If you have a stomach ulcer, be careful when using wormwood. It could aggravate your condition. Also, if you have diabetes, wormwood may alter blood sugar. Monitor yourself very carefully to prevent any difficulties.

Those with liver problems should be careful with wormwood. Ask your doctor. Do not use wormwood (artemisia) if you are pregnant or nursing.

If you take prescription medications, check with your doctor before adding this herbal supplement. Also, limit alcohol consumption while taking wormwood.
