Hawthorn Berry Side Effects

Hawthorn berry supplements are used for heart health and can be used as a diuretic. Even though hawthorn is a great herbal remedy, it still may have some side effects. All herbs have the potential to cause side effects in different individuals.

Hawthorn berry is generally safe for healthy adults. If you plan to use hawthorn as a diuretic, use it for the short term. If you want to use hawthorn for heart issues, consult your doctor first, especially if you have a condition or if you are taking medication.

Only take the amount listed on the supplement bottle. If you take more hawthorn than you should, you can expect some side effects such as:
  • Heart palpatations
  • Increased heart rate
  • Chest pains
  • Tiredness

Never overdose on hawthorn or take more than the recommended dose. Just read the label very carefully and follow what it says.

Hawthorn can possibly cause a few other side effects in certain individuals. These include:
  • Upset stomach
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness

Don't use hawthorn if you are pregnant or nursing. Do not give hawthorn berry to children. Not enough is known about these situations to know if it's safe or not.

If you have a heart condition, be sure to check with your doctor about taking hawthorn berry supplements. It may even be a good idea to talk to an herbalist about it because doctors generally promote their prescriptions and they are likely to steer you away from taking an herbal product even if it could benefit you greatly.

Hawthorn Berry Weight Loss

Hawthorn berry is an herbal remedy that is sometimes suggested for weight loss. It can be a helpful herb when you are trying to lose weight. It's not a fat burner, but it has weight loss properties that can help you. Here are the ways hawthorn can help you lose weight:
  • Gets rid of bloating

If you have a high sodium diet, chances are that you have an extra 10-15 lbs of water weight. This can make it difficult for you to fit into smaller clothing. It makes you look puffy and fat when actually it's only excess water weight.

If you are one of those people who just need to lose the last 10 lbs, it's probably extra water weight. The average person has about 15 lbs of extra water weight.

Weight loss with hawthorn berry seems to be strictly water weight loss. It's not really fat loss and if you go back to eating those salty foods again, chances are the weight will just come back. In this sense, hawthorn isn't good for permanent fat loss.

It can, however, help those people who might be going to the beach, going to the prom, or need to fit into an outfit in a short amount of time. You can't lose pure fat in a short amount of time, but you can rid your body of excess water weight in a short time.

If you need to lose that last 10 lbs or if you need a quick weight loss before an event, hawthorn and other diuretic herbs can help you do that. You can usually find a combination of different diuretic herbs all in the same tablet.

Remember, in order to lose fat permanently, it requires you to find a fat burning herb such as bitter orange or African mango and also exercise and eat a balanced diet of all different foods.
