Bitter Orange Side Effects

Now on to the side effects of bitter orange. There has been a lot of controversy about this herbal remedy, because it speeds up the heart and this may cause issues for some people with poor health. But just how many prescription drugs have caused serious medical conditions and even death but still have not been pulled off the market? I could name a few right now.

Ridiculous. Risks are risks and you take one anytime you take an herb because you may be allergic for all you know. Herbs are BY FAR safer than prescription drugs any day.

Now, certain herbs do cause some issues with people who have certain condition. Also herbs react differently from person to person. One person may feel good effects, one may be allergic, one may feel nothing, etc. BUT when claims are made than an herb can heal certain conditions, it is backed up with research on many different people.

Bitter orange is no different than another herb when it comes to assessing health risks involved in taking it. You take too much, you'll have a problem. You take it under certain conditions, you'll have a problem.

Don't take bitter orange with other stimulants. Caffeine is a stimulant. Nicotine is a stimulant. If you choose bitter orange, be faithful to it and do not take it along side other stimulants. This will cause too much stimulation in your body and may result in stroke, fainting, high blood pressure, and heart attack.

Some people who are sensitive to caffeine or other stimulants may have an issue with headaches if they take bitter orange. If your body is not used to stimulants, you may want to ease into it or take smaller doses at first.

Protect your skin when you go out in the sun. Bitter orange may cause you to burn more easily. Use protection against UVA/UVB rays.

There haven't been enough studies about bitter orange and pregnancy or breast feeding (go figure), so stay on the safe side and do not consume bitter orange while pregnant or nursing.

If you have high blood pressure, you should not take bitter orange. This is because bitter orange increases heart rate while it burns extra calories. This causes an increased risk in individuals who already have high blood pressure.

You should not take bitter orange if you have glaucoma. If you have a surgery in the near future, do not take bitter orange. If you have heart disease or irregular heart beat on occasion, do not take bitter orange.

As you can see, most healthy people will be just fine taking bitter orange as long as they are not allergic and as long as they do not take it combined with other stimulants.
