Don't take guarana with other stimulants. If you take guarana, it would be wise to replace your morning coffee or tea with guarana, because too much caffeine can cause side effects such as jitters, increased heart rate, and sleeplessness. Of course, guarana will have the same weight loss effects of your morning coffee and tea minus the extra calories from sugar and cream.
Only take the recommended dosage of guarana. You should not take more than what the directions on the bottle tell you to take.
Many Americans are accustomed to a high caffeine diet, so it's less likely that an American would feel side effects. Those who are caffeine sensitive should not take a guarana supplement.
People with the following conditions should be cautious when taking guarana: high blood pressure, heart conditions, anxiety, nervous disorders, and kidney disease. This is because too much caffeine can aggravate these conditions. While you're at it, you should cut out the Coke too (unless it's caffeine free).
If you are pregnant or nursing, DO NOT take guarana. You are limited to 200 mg of caffeine per day if you are pregnant or nursing. If you take more than that, you are subjecting your child to birth defects and other problems.
