How To Get Passed a Weight Loss Plateau

A weight loss plateau is when you don't see a change in weight loss for weeks even though you are still on your diet and still exercising. Some people give up. Some people keep trying. I'm here to tell you it's not the end. You can overcome this. There are many different things you can do to get your body to lose weight again.

Evaluate your weight loss plan. Are you eating enough? Those who are on a diet may not be aware that they are actually starving themselves. The bare minimum that you should eat if you are a woman is 1200 calories per day and that's if you are sedentary (laying on the couch all day) with a normal weight. You should add more to that if you weigh more and are active during the day. For a man, the number is 1500 and that's for men who are sedentary and a normal weight.

If you are not eating enough, your body will quickly lose weight at first. Then, your metabolism will slow down in order to prevent starvation. You will have to eat less and less in order to lose weight. That is not a road you want to go down. In order to get off this kind of plateau, you need to up your calories.

Use this calculator and enter your information. You should be eating the number beside "fat loss". If you eat much less than that number, chances are you have been starving. Go ahead and begin eating that number today. At first you may gain a little, but then your weight will stabilize and you will begin losing again.

If you have been eating enough for fat loss and you have hit a plateau, you need to shock your body. For example, if you have been eating 1500 calories every day for 3 months, don't you think your body will get used to it eventually? And eventually you won't lose as much weight as you did at first. You have two choices here.

Use the same calculator mentioned above and enter your information. Here are your two best choices:
  1. Eat your "maintenance" calories for a few weeks, then drop it down to the "fat loss" calories. Keep eating at the fat loss level until you hit your next plateau.
  2. Look underneath the calorie numbers and you will see "7 day calorie cycle (zig-zag)". Click that and follow the fat loss calorie zig zag every day.
Each one of these are good choices. Each one will help to confuse your body into losing weight again. Your body has become too comfortable so it's time to shake it up. Remember to always go back to the calculator every time you lose some weight because the numbers will change over time.

Another way to boost weight loss is to change up your workout. Maybe your body is too used to what you are doing. Instead of aerobics every day you could switch to swimming laps. Instead of walking, you could do dancing or tennis. This is completely up to you. The point is to make a change in order to push your body to let go of some more fat.

Are you getting enough essential fatty acids? These are good fats like Fish oil and Flaxseed oil. They can help get your body to burn some fat again. Studies show that the addition of essential fatty acids has been enough to help some people get passed plateaus.

A liver cleanse may be a good idea. Your liver plays a huge role in metabolism and fat burning. It is up to you to keep it in optimal health so that it keeps your metabolism high. What have you done for your liver lately? Use milk thistle to cleanse your liver. As a result, your metabolism will be boosted and your body will feel better.

If you try these things, you will be off that plateau in no time. Keep working on it. You have come this far. There is no reason to quit now. I had an awful 3 month long plateau that seemed as if it would never end. I was able to get passed it and now I am smaller and still losing weight.
