It's certainly possible to eat only fruit. It would cleanse your body, cause you to lose weight, and extend your life, but is it sustainable? That depends on you.
When you go on a fruit diet, the fruit you eat pretty much breaks itself down, so your body has to do very little. This gives your digestive system a break so it can go work on many other things, such as removing toxins, harmful fat deposits, and harmful bacteria. When you give digestion a break, you give your body a chance to go in and clean house. You would be surprised at how many toxins are in your body. These things are causing inflammation and disease.
How To Implement a Fruit Only Diet:
It's very simple to do. You just eat a piece of fruit every two hours while you are awake. That's all. Of course, also drink water throughout the day, but do not add anything else. You shouldn't have other beverages. Not a sip, nor a bite of anything else. This is to give special attention to the fruit.
A modified (and easier) version of this diet is to alternate fruit with fruit juice. Fruit juice has more calories than whole pieces of fruit, therefore your body will be getting more and you won't feel as many bad effects of the detox. To do this, you would take a piece of fruit, two hours later have a cup of fruit juice, two hours after that have another piece of fruit.
How much weight can you lose? A lot. Most people will lose an extreme amount of weight during the first week or two, and then it tapers off to about 1-2 lbs a week which is normal. The initial weight loss is excess water weight and toxins.
A word of caution: If you go on a fruit diet, your body will begin to detox. You may not know it, but detoxification is not a pleasant experience. You will get headaches, feel weak, possibly even dizzy, and of course hungry. It doesn't mean you are doing a bad thing. This is what it feels like when toxins are being released. Here is a great website that can tell you more information about how this is good for you.
There is even a name for eating only fruit. It's called Fruitarianism. These people also add nuts and seeds though.
