Milk Thistle Side Effects

As with any herbal supplement, you will need to know about all of the side effects and warnings prior to adding the supplement to your daily diet. Before adding milk thistle, you should assess the side effects of taking this herb.

Milk thistle has few side effects. Most people will not deal with any side effects when taking milk thistle if it's taken correctly. If your body reacts negatively with milk thistle, you may experience:
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • bloating
  • upset stomach
There is only a small chance that these side effects will occur. Most people can take milk thistle and be just fine. If you experience any of the side effects mentioned and it's unbearable, just discontinue use. Milk thistle is safe to use for most people.

Those who are pregnant and nursing should not take milk thistle.

There are some who may have an allergy to milk thistle. If you are allergic to ragweed, you will be allergic to milk thistle. You should avoid taking milk thistle if you experience any allergy symptoms which include a rash, swelling, and other allergy symptoms.

Women who have breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer should avoid milk thistle. If you have endometriosis, you should also avoid milk thistle.

Milk thistle is generally safe for most people, but be aware of the warnings and make sure you are not allergic.
