How To Grow Astragalus

If you want to grow astragalus, use a more sandy soil to grow this plant. Take the astragalus seeds and scratch the outer surface with a needle. Don't dig into the seed, just scratch it's surface. During winter, you can plant the seeds in a small pot and keep it inside. After the last frost, you can transport the plant outside.

When you plant astragalus, use sandy soil. Make sure you water the plant sparingly. It is a drought resilient plant and if you over water it, you could kill the plant. Choose a place in your garden that gets full sun.

If you are growing astragalus for it's herbal benefits, you will want to harvest the root of the plant. Do not harvest the root until the plant is four to five years old. I know that is a long time to wait for an herbal remedy, so maybe you should just buy it in a store if you do not want to wait.
