Flaxseed oil is a great supplement for weight loss, but you should know about the possible side effects and warnings associated with flaxseed oil. It's considered safe for most people if you take it in the proper dosage.

Always check your supplement bottle. For example, if the bottle says you can take one capsule, one to two times daily, it may be best to start out with one capsule daily and work your way up to two.

If you take too much flaxseed oil, you may experience:
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
It is possible to be allergic to flaxseed oil. If you have never taken flaxseed before, keep on the look out for possible signs of an allergy such as rashes and swelling.

If you are pregnant or nursing, it is advised for you to not take flaxseed oil because not enough information is known about flaxseed oil and pregnancy. Be on the safe side and wait to take it.

Flaxseed oil contains alpha-linolenic acid. Alpha-linolenic has been known to aggravate prostate cancer, but not the kind found in flaxseed oil. Only the alpha-linolenic acid found in animal products are harmful for those with prostate cancer.
