If you become choline deficient, this can lead to malfunction of the liver and other liver conditions. The good thing is, choline can be found in many foods, so that prevents most people from experiencing a choline deficiency.
You should take no more than 3.5 grams of choline per day. Now, if you take too much choline, there will be some side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Fishy smell from your body
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Sweating
- Diarrhea
If you are pregnant or nursing, it is safe to take choline in normal amounts. You may take 3 grams per day.
If you get choline in your diet (which I'm sure you do), then you may take a choline supplement that only provides enough for you to reach your daily limit of 3.5 grams. This will help to aid in fat metabolism and make sure you are getting plenty of choline for your body without taking too much.
