Ginger is a spice used to give flavor to foods. It's also taken as a supplement or tea in order to aide in weight loss and digestion. Before taking ginger supplements, you should find out what the side effects of ginger are. Here are the reported side effects of ginger:
  • Upset stomach
  • Heartburn
  • Diarrhea
These side effects are not likely to occur, since ginger is actually used to treat the above mentioned conditions. Very few people will have these issues. For most people, ginger can actually be used to get rid of nausea and other digestive upsets.

There has been some controversy when researching ginger and pregnancy. Stay on the safe side and don't take ginger or ask your doctor first. There is not enough information known about ginger and breast feeding to make a conclusion. Be safe and exclude it until you are done nursing.

Ginger may lower blood sugar. Those with diabetes should be aware of this possible side effects and consult a doctor if they want to add a ginger supplement.

Ginger can thin the blood, therefore if you have a bleeding disorder, it's best if you do not take a ginger supplement. Ginger is also not recommended for those who have heart conditions.
