Does Cinnamon Help You Lose Weight?

You know the weight loss benefits of cinnamon, but now it's time to hear about actual stories of how people have used cinnamon in their diets in order to achieve weight loss. I visited a few forums and here is what I came up with:

In this forum, a member talks about how cinnamon helped her. She used to binge on food, then she began taking cinnamon. She noticed that the binges stopped and it suppressed her appetite. She no longer had a craving to eat uncontrollably for no reason. At one point, she stopped taking cinnamon and the binges came back after a few days. She knew she could no longer do without this supplement if she wanted to lose weight, so she began taking it again.

Another person mentioned that when they take cinnamon, they no longer want to eat sweets like they normally do. Cinnamon is known to curb your appetite for sweets.

In another thread, this person says that she began taking cinnamon to help with blood sugar. Not only did it help with that, but she also noticed increased energy and a lack of appetite.

I noticed something while reading through these threads. So many people have been lied to that they believe herbs simply do not help. That is not true and it upsets me. This is definitely off-topic and I know there is nothing I can do about it. I just have to keep trying to get the word out. Herbs heal whether people believe it or not.

Cinnamon Side Effects

If you are thinking of adding a cinnamon supplement, you may want to assess the risks of side effects first. If you know that you have an ulcer, you should not take large doses of cinnamon. Cinnamon could aggravate the lining of your stomach if you have an ulcer.

Pregnant and nursing women are encouraged to not take a cinnamon supplement. If you take Tylenol or any other blood thinning medication, you should not take cinnamon because it will cause uncontrollable bleeding if you have an accident.

If there is a sore or ulcer in your mouth, then you may feel some pain if you take cinnamon. You will be fine if you take cinnamon capsules though. Cinnamon may speed up the heart. This is because cinnamon improves circulation of blood and creates heat in the body.

Never ingest essential oil of cinnamon. Only ingest cinnamon that is made to go inside your body. You can find cinnamon in capsule form or powder for sprinkling over desserts.

If you have kidney disease or a kidney illness, you should not take cinnamon because it may cause kidney failure. Anyone can be allergic to cinnamon, so if you develop symptoms of an allergy such as itching, watery eyes, rashes, etc. seek medical attention.

Weight Loss With Cinnamon

Cinnamon is great in dessert dishes, but did you know that cinnamon is a weight loss herb? Cinnamon can do many things to help you in your weight loss endeavors. Here are the great weight loss benefits of cinnamon:
  • Stabilizes blood sugar
  • Suppresses appetite
  • Burns fat
  • Limits storage of fat
Adding cinnamon can really curb your appetite and raise your metabolism. Now, you won't lose any weight if you're eating cinnamon rolls all day, but you will lose weight if you add cinnamon as a supplement.

You can get cinnamon in capsule form at Swanson Vitamins or your store of choice. I choose swanson because of the convenience and price. You can't beat it. If you are trying to lose weight, but need a little help, add cinnamon to your program.
