How To Maintain Weight Loss

So you've lost a lot of weight and now you are wanting to shift into maintenance mode. This is where you change your routine so that you are no longer losing weight or gaining weight, but you are staying the same weight. This can be tricky. Follow these tips.

Don't get too comfortable. It's possible to lose weight and then get too comfortable and gain it back. What I mean is, you start to think you can slack off too much and before long, you are wearing those sweat pants again. Don't let yourself reach that point.

Don't be so strict either. It's time to stop being as strict as you once were. If you continue being strict, you will continue to lose weight. People may start to wonder about your health.

Find a nice medium. At this point, you've lost all the weight you want to lose. Quit eating less calories and start eating maintenance calories. Maintenance calories means you are eating exactly what you need each day. No more, no less. This can be hard, because even a slight error in measurement or counting could have you gaining weight again. You should eat about 150 calories less than maintenance to make up for any inconsistencies.

Exercise. Continue to exercise. You can't stop. If you do, you will lose the muscle you have gained which will cause your basal metabolic rate to drop. When that happens, you won't have the lean figure you had before and you may gain weight back. Maintain your fitness by changing up the exercises.

You may choose to do something less intense now that you are maintaining. You might switch from 30 minutes of intense cardio to 45 minutes of yoga. Do different things and do what you like. After all, you aren't trying to lose weight anymore so you should enjoy your exercise now.

Weigh yourself. Weighing yourself is very important. If you begin gaining weight back, your clothes might not show it until you're already 10 lbs heavier. You don't want that to happen. The best thing to do is to weigh yourself weekly and record the weight. Water weight is normal and it causes weight to shift.

Once you move out of your normal range, start doing something to correct it. For example, my normal range may be 138-141 lbs because of water weight. If I reach 142 lbs, I know I need to do something about it.

Protein Prevents Fat Storage: New Study

A new study proves that if you eat too little protein, you may gain weight more quickly, but if you eat more protein you can prevent excess fat storage.

25 men and women were monitored in a controlled environment. They were given 1,000 calories more than they needed each day. One half were given a low protein diet and the other half were given a high protein diet. Each group gained weight, because they were both eating too much, but the low protein group gained 40% less fat even though both groups ate the same amount in excess.

If you are dieting, make sure you get plenty of protein. Have protein in every meal and snack. Even if it's an unhealthy snack, make sure it contains nuts, peanut butter, or some other protein. Always keep almonds handy, especially at work or when you are away from home. Snack on yogurt.

Eating more protein prevents fat storage and can help you attain your weight loss goals sooner.

6 Simple Weight Loss Tips

There are quite a few things I wish I had known about years ago when the weight began to pile on. It took years for me to find out the truth about how to lose weight. Weight loss doesn't have to be hard. Small changes make a huge difference. Here are some tips you can begin implementing today.

Tip #1

Drink more water. When you don't drink enough water, your body will hold onto what little water it has because your body doesn't know when it will get water again. You need to create a constant flow of water so that your body relaxes and lets go of the extra bloating and water weight gain. Also, when you don't drink enough water, you will put a strain on your kidneys and liver. This will slow down your metabolism.

Having said that, there is a such thing as too much water. You don't want to drink too much. Drinking eight cups of water per day seems to be the magic number that experts have agreed on. At first, you may find yourself running to the bathroom a lot. Don't worry. That will subside after a couple of weeks.

Tip #2

Small food changes. Instead of purchasing white rice, purchase brown rice. Instead of eating white bread, eat multi-grain bread and wheat bread. Instead of getting 2% milk or whole milk, purchase fat free milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or almond milk. These little changes will help cut out a few extra calories. It's a step towards healthier foods.

Tip #3

Fiber. Make sure you are getting enough fiber. You should be getting around 30 grams of fiber per day. If you are like the average American, you are not getting enough fiber. Fiber can help you lose weight. It keeps your digestive tract clean and moving. If you find it hard to get enough fiber, take a fiber supplement. It would also be great if you took that fiber supplement 30 minutes before your meals. It will expand in your stomach and cause you to eat slightly less.

Tip #4

Walk a little. If you absolutely hate exercising or if you find it difficult to keep up with hard exercises, try walking. It burns fat. It builds lean muscle. It's just as effective as any other workout. It doesn't cost money either. You may think you walk enough during the day, but you need to set aside some time for walking other than your daily activities. You can start off with just 10 or 15 minutes. After a week goes by, add another 5 minutes to that. Continue until you are walking 30 minutes to 1 hour per day. You will be surprised at what a difference this will make.

Tip #5

Count Calories. This one is not as hard as you think. Basically none of the above things will help if you are eating 3 pizzas and 5 cheeseburgers per day. You have to do some form of portion control or calorie counting. This does not mean you have to starve or feel hungry all of the time. It also doesn't mean you have to say no to the foods you love. You can still eat!

To start off, you need to know how many calories per day you burn normally. This number is different for everyone. It depends on age, activity level, height, weight, etc. Go to this calorie calculator and plug in your gender, age, height, weight, etc. Now you will see three numbers. One for maintenance, one for fat loss, and one for extreme fat loss. You should choose the one for fat loss. Don't eat more than that number of calories per day. That's it. It's so simple.

Tip #6

Get some help. You have heard so many times that there is no magic pill. Well, there isn't. There are some herbs and vitamins that can help you though. For instance, if you are restricting calories but you still feel hungry, you may choose an appetite suppressing herb like Hoodia or Cinnamon. If you want to increase your workouts and calories burned, you may choose Green Tea or Chromium Picolinate. I'm not claiming that these are magic pills, but they do help. Clinical studies show that they increase fat loss and cut cravings.

Don't give up if you aren't 10 lbs smaller after a week. So many people have an unrealistic view of weight loss. A healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week. If you lose more than that, you may be doing something unhealthy. It will be a slow process, but stick with it. It's worth it.

If you do at least half of the tips listed here, you will start to see some weight loss. It doesn't have to be hard to lose weight. Don't give in to those yo yo diets and low-carb bull that people try. These tips here are things that really work and they are things that you can continue doing for life. You can be that skinnier version of you. Envision it, dream it, live it, become it.

Alfalfa Weight Loss

Alfalfa is a great herb to use if you are trying to lose weight. There are many health benefits of alfalfa, such as healing arthritis and boosting the immune system. Here are the ways in which alfalfa can help you lose weight:
  • Gets rid of bloating
  • Natural Detox
  • Aids in digestion
  • Increased energy
  • Contains many vitamins and minerals
  • Boosts metabolism
Again, we go back to the idea of cleansing the liver. It really boosts your metabolism and alfalfa will cleanse your liver for optimal functioning. Alfalfa also detoxifies your entire digestive system, which is necessary every so often.

If you are using alfalfa for weight loss, you will find success here, whether you take it in capsule form or add it to your meals. Alfalfa will get rid of water weight gain and it will help your body digest the food faster.

It is said that alfalfa may stimulate your appetite some, so if you are using it for weight loss, you may want to use it just long enough to get a good detox. It depends on your individual body and how you react to it. If it makes you more hungry than you were before, just stop taking it after the detox. If you don't have this problem, continue taking it because it's a great herb for weight loss.

Soy Lecithin Weight Loss

Soy lecithin is used in many weight loss products. It's a lipid and it has many very important roles in our bodies. Lecithin can help you reach your weight loss goals, because it is a fat emulsifier. Here are the things soy lecithin can do for you in order to aid in weight loss:
  • Burns fat
  • Helps transport fat out of the body
  • Gives more energy and endurance
  • Breaks up fat in arteries
Lecithin can already be found in many of the foods we eat each day including soy products, fish, nuts and legumes, eggs, and grains, etc. You can also take extra lecithin as a supplement in order to make sure that you are getting enough.

Soy lecithin prevents you from having a fatty liver. As I've stated before, many people have a fatty liver or are at least over due for a cleansing of the liver and this causes a decrease in your metabolism. By cleansing the liver, you will raise your metabolism by 23% according to studies.

Many websites out there try to refute the claim that soy lecithin promotes weight loss. That is ridiculous. The facts are clear. When you get rid of the fat in your liver (and we all have it because of our diets), then your metabolism will increase and that is proven.

Fish Oil Weight Loss

Fish oil is needed to keep your fat burning as efficient as possible. Studies show that people who take fish oil or some sort of omega fatty acids supplement have less obesity and tend to weight less. This is because our bodies need these good fats to help burn off the bad fats. Here are the things fish oil can do for you to help you lose weight:
  • Prevents formation of new fat cells
  • Balances hormones
  • Raises metabolism
  • Stimulates brown fat stores
  • Suppresses appetite
  • Increased energy
  • Regulates insulin
For 12 weeks, two groups were in a study. They both did aerobic exercise three times a week and one group was given fish oil while the other group didn't get fish oil. The group that took fish oil had much more weight loss. It targeted specifically the fat around their stomachs.

Increased insulin levels promote fat storage. Fish oil helps tremendously with this problem. When you balance your insulin levels, you will see an increase in weight loss. You may not even know that your insulin levels are out of wack, but if you eat the average American diet, your insulin levels are definitely off and that promotes fat storage. Another study was done where patients were given the same diet, except one group was given fish oil. The group that was given fish oil burned significantly more fat per day.

If you are trying to lose weight, it would be wise of you to take either fish oil or flaxseed oil in order to get your essential fatty acids. You will lose weight much faster among other health benefits that fish oil provides.

Flaxseed Oil Weight Loss

Flaxseed oil is rich in omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. These fats are needed by our bodies in order to lose weight. Good fats help us to burn off bad fats. You need these good fats in your diet. Most people are lacking these fats and it causes weight gain. Here are the things flaxseed oil can do for you when it comes to weight loss:
  • Stimulates brown fat stores for burning
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Increased energy
  • Burns fat
  • Prevents the formation of fat cells
  • Suppresses appetite
  • Regulates blood sugar and insulin
  • Improves digestion
Flaxseed oil helps our bodies burn fat. It stimulates the brown fat stores and heats them up for burning. It also makes our process of burning fat more efficient so we are able to burn fat more easily than before.

Flaxseed increases energy without increasing hunger. It actually suppresses the appetite by stabilizing blood sugar throughout the day. Flaxseed also prevents the formation of new fat cells. The more fat cells your body creates, the more likely you will have a hard time losing weight and keeping it off.

Flaxseed oil also improves digestion. If you are trying to burn fat, you should not be without these essential fatty acids found in flaxseed oil.

Coconut Oil Reviews

You have read the weight loss benefits of coconut oil. Now it's time to hear about people who have added coconut oil to their diets and had results to share. Here are some coconut oil reviews and testimonials:

In this review of coconut capsules, one woman says that among other things she has noticed a lot of extra energy. Another woman says it helps her workout longer. One man says he noticed his stomach has less fat. One woman says it helps to control her appetite.

In this forum, one person said their weight loss had leveled off but then they began to use coconut oil and they started to see weight loss again. One man does a fine job of explaining how those who are against coconut oil are wrong because they base their information on a false study that was done four decades ago.

In this forum post, there are a few skeptics, but towards the bottom you see one person who said it flattened their stomach and a girl said she lost 3-4 lbs in a week.

Last but not least, I use coconut oil every day. I use it as a supplement. I don't cook with it. I have lost weight, but then again I love herbs so it's not the only supplement I use. I know it really helps with weight loss though and that is why I use it. It does have saturated fat, but this is a medium chain fat which does NOT get stored. Have you ever heard about good fats and bad fats? Coconut oil contains good fat and good fat helps you get rid of your fat.

There are many more stories I could posts about studies done and people talking about their success, but I think you get the idea now.

Coconut Oil Weight Loss Benefits

Did you know coconut oil may help you reach your weight loss goals? Coconut oil is a pretty impressive supplement and it has many weight loss benefits. Here are the weight loss benefits of coconut oil:
  • Appetite suppression
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Increases energy
  • Improves thyroid functioning
  • Improves digestion
Coconut oil increases your metabolism because it relieves stress on the pancreas. Since coconut oil regulates blood sugar, it decreases your appetite. That will make you less prone to snacking and binges. Coconut oil is able to increase your energy during the day. Coconut oil also improves the functioning of your thyroid, which can lead to weight loss.

Coconut oil is one of the great herbal supplements for weight loss. It's very healthy for you. Not only does it help you lose weight, but it does so many other things for your body. I wouldn't be without this amazing supplement.

Papaya Weight Loss Stories

Papaya has shown evidence of helping improve digestion, especially digestion of meats and aid in weight loss. Now it's time to hear about actual people who have used papaya and found good results with it. Here are some papaya reviews:

In this review of papaya tablets, one girl said her body is assimilating nutrients better.

In this review of chewable papaya enzyme, one girl said she noticed an improvement since her stomach is sensitive. I'm guessing she means the papaya helped her digest her food. Another person says they have been using papaya for 15 years and it helps them with digestion. One man said he gave up antacids and began using papaya enzyme instead and he has no more issues.

My conclusion is this: Papaya will aid in digestion, especially with meats which are hard to digest. If you eat a lot of meat and you tend to be constipated, you will mostly benefit from papaya. It will break down foods and move them through your body more quickly. When food moves through your body more quickly, you tend to lose weight.

Papaya Weight Loss

Papaya can help you with your weight loss goals. Papaya contains the papain enzyme which is a great addition to anyone's weight loss efforts. Here are the things papaya can do for you when it comes to weight loss:
  • Improved digestion
  • Metabolizes meat
There is evidence that the papaya enzyme, called papain, will help your body break down meats and metabolize them. Our bodies have a hard time breaking down meat and as a result, we will have slower digestive systems. A slower digestive system means more stored fat and more bloating.

In this sense, papaya could really help you lose weight. You can either eat the fruit or take a papaya supplement. Of course, you will have added benefits if you eat the fruit because of the fiber content which also helps you lose weight.

Papaya is worth trying, especially if you are having difficulty losing weight and you tend to eat a lot of beef and other meats. You will benefit greatly from adding papaya to your weight loss program. Papaya is also a great source of vitamins A and C.

Milk Thistle Reviews

Before you incorporate a milk thistle supplement into your daily routine, you may be wanting to know what others think about milk thistle. I've gathered some product reviews for you:

In this review of milk thistle, the majority of customers agree that it effectively cleans the liver of toxins. We know that when our liver is clean it can work more efficiently at removing fat from our bodies instead of storing it. This promotes weight loss. One woman says she has more energy now. Some customers even had tests done on their livers that prove the effectiveness of milk thistle.

I found a nice tid-bit of information on this forum. One lady says that she read a study on milk thistle that says when it cleans your liver, you get 23% more fat burning than before. This is true for reasons I stated above. Another person says she had trouble losing weight. Then she added milk thistle to her diet and she lost 22 lbs.

Herbs are not a gimmick. They actually do help if you allow them too. This is what most people fail to believe.

Another person says it helps with controlling their blood sugar. When you have spikes in blood sugar, it causes unnecessary cravings. Another person said they lost 6 lbs in 3 weeks from taking milk thistle because it really helped to clean the junk out and get the fat burning going. Yet another person lost 5 lbs.

There is actually a lot of people who are saying milk thistle helped them lose pounds. These are not people selling it. They are not getting any benefit from talking about it. They are just sharing their experience.

Conclusion: milk thistle is one of the best herbal remedies for losing weight. Try it. It's cheap anyway. You can get it for a few dollars at swanson vitamins online store.

Milk Thistle Side Effects

As with any herbal supplement, you will need to know about all of the side effects and warnings prior to adding the supplement to your daily diet. Before adding milk thistle, you should assess the side effects of taking this herb.

Milk thistle has few side effects. Most people will not deal with any side effects when taking milk thistle if it's taken correctly. If your body reacts negatively with milk thistle, you may experience:
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • bloating
  • upset stomach
There is only a small chance that these side effects will occur. Most people can take milk thistle and be just fine. If you experience any of the side effects mentioned and it's unbearable, just discontinue use. Milk thistle is safe to use for most people.

Those who are pregnant and nursing should not take milk thistle.

There are some who may have an allergy to milk thistle. If you are allergic to ragweed, you will be allergic to milk thistle. You should avoid taking milk thistle if you experience any allergy symptoms which include a rash, swelling, and other allergy symptoms.

Women who have breast, ovarian, and uterine cancer should avoid milk thistle. If you have endometriosis, you should also avoid milk thistle.

Milk thistle is generally safe for most people, but be aware of the warnings and make sure you are not allergic.

Milk Thistle Weight Loss Benefits

Milk thistle is another weight loss herb that can really help you shed the unwanted pounds. It does so many things as far as helping you lose weight. Here are all of the things milk thistle will do for you to help you lose weight:
  • Breaks down consumed fat
  • Improves digestion
  • Flushes out fats
  • Cleans liver
  • Inhibits fat cell growth
Milk thistle helps to break down the fat you eat and then flushes it out of your body, as opposed to your body absorbing it and storing it as stored fat. It also helps to improve digestion and you know that when your digestion system isn't running as fast as it should, it results in extra stored fat.

It also cleans the liver. When our liver isn't flushed and cleaned correctly, it can't do it's job as good (most people who do not drink enough water will have an over worked liver). When your liver can't do it's job as well, you will store more fat on your body instead of flushing it out. Milk thistle prevents that by cleaning the liver. Also, milk thistle prevents fat cells from growing.

Mangosteen Weight Loss Reviews

I have gathered up some information from people who have used mangosteen for weight loss and here is what I found:

In this review of mangosteen fruit juice, one woman said it helps improve her digestion by "cleaning her out". This is crucial to weight loss because a slow digestive system means you will pack on the pounds. She also said that it gave her an increase in energy by making her feel less sluggish.

In this review of mangosteen capsules, one person said it definitely makes them feel more energetic when they take it. He/she also feels more calm and less stressed. Stress is a big factor that makes you gain weight.

In this review of mangosteen juice, one man reports that him and his friends take this product and have more energy and look younger. Another person buys it for his/her father who is elderly and he noticed an increase in energy levels.

Again, when I searched some weight loss forums there were nothing but skeptics. People who think if you talk about these products, you must be selling them. None of them had tried it from what I read.

My conclusion is this: These people have written sincere testimonials and reviews from their experience and it's certainly believable. You can go to any of the places and read them yourself. I know this: at least mangosteen gives an increase in energy, improves digestion, and reduces stress which are all things that can assist in weight loss.

Mangosteen Side Effects

You may have read the post about mangosteen weight loss benefits and you are eager to try it, but you should know that there could be side effects of mangosteen. You should always find out the warnings and side effects of anything you want to add to your daily routine.

Mangosteen may cause a rash if you take too high of a dose to begin with. If you develop a rash, lower the dose of mangosteen and see if it goes away. Usually, it will. If you develop symptoms of an allergy, then you may be allergic and you should discontinue use of the mangosteen supplement.

There are no known side effects of mangosteen except for maybe a rash when you take too much. Different people will react in different ways. Watch your body carefully and if anything alarming occurs, discontinue use. Mangosteen is generally a safe fruit supplement and most people won't have a problem with it.

Mangosteen Weight Loss Benefits

Mangosteen is a fruit from Indonesia. You can take it in supplement form for health and weight loss benefits. It's a wonderful, healthy fruit. Here are the weight loss benefits of mangosteen:
  • Increased energy
  • Improved digestion
  • Burns fat
  • Suppresses appetite
With an increase in energy, you will feel more like being active and you may be able to exercise for longer periods of time. You won't feel sleepy in the mid-afternoon. The longer food sits in your system, the more weight you may put on. Mangosteen gets your digestive system moving like it ought to.

Mangosteen increases your metabolism and helps you burn extra stored fat as fuel. It also suppresses your appetite, so you will notice less idle eating throughout the day. All of these things combined together means that mangosteen can be a great weapon to get rid of extra fat.

Grapefruit Peel Reviews

I looked around briefly to see if I could find reviews from people who have added a grapefruit peel to their daily routine and had results to share. Well, I had a hard time finding them, but I did find this study done with 100 people.

These 100 people did not change their normal daily schedules. They didn't change diets or exercise. They went about their normal days. The only difference is they were given half a grapefruit (peel included) and grapefruit juice or a supplement before every meal.

These people lost on average 3 1/2 lbs after 12 weeks. The study can be found here. That's not an extreme amount of weight loss, but it's nice to lose weight without changing much! Just think if you could add another supplement and maybe walk 4 days a week what you could accomplish then.

So there is evidence that grapefruit peel does promote weight loss. It's sold as a weight loss supplement and it could help you in reaching your weight loss goals. You can find grapefruit capsules at most herbal supplement stores. If you want a recommendation, try swansonvitamins.com. I buy my supplements from them.

Grapefruit Peel Side Effects

Before taking any supplement, you should be aware of any side effects or warnings. Grapefruit peel does not have any known side effects. It seems to be fine unless you are allergic. If you begin to experience symptoms of an allergy which include water eyes, rashes, and trouble breathing, etc. please do not use grapefruit peel.

Also, if you take any prescription medications, you should consult your doctor before adding any supplement. Grapefruit peel could interact with your medicine.

There haven't been enough studies done on grapefruit peel for pregnant and nursing women. Be on the safe side and leave it out of your routine until you are finished nursing. There are no other known warnings about grapefruit peel. This does not mean you won't experience side effects. You never know how something will react with you until you begin taking it. Grapefruit peel is generally safe and does no harm to the body.
